Don’t Let Netflix Zap Your Child’s Learning This Summer – Send Them to a Summer Camp for Kids

Thinking about your child forgetting everything they’ve learned in school while they spend an entire summer in front of the TV is enough to stress any parent out. Save yourself the worry of what your child will do all summer long by enrolling them in a summer camp for kids that fills their day with a combination of exciting and enriching activities. The right camp will give your kids a great summer education without them even knowing it. When kids are free to play and explore they do not even realize that they’re leaning, making them eager participants in nearly any discipline.

St. Jude’s Academy summer camps are an excellent way to expose kids to a variety of activities, some of which they may not participate in otherwise. Through our school holiday programs, kids finish the summer with a toolkit full of new skills that they can carry forward into their next academic year and into their life. Some of the key takeaways that children will learn in our camps include:

  • Real life skills – Kids love learning practical information or skills that they can use at home. When a child can apply something they’ve learned, it boosts their self-confidence and encourages themto learn more. Some of our most popular and practical activities are those that kids can use in their daily family lives, like our cooking activity which takes place each Friday, or our lessons on gardening and growing herbs.
  • Artistic skills – Not everyone is born an artist, but ability has very little to do with the goal of our school holiday art programs. Our focus with any artistic activity in our summer camps is always to encourage self-expression. We love seeing the ways that kids choose to let their creativity shine through, even when they don’t particularly see themselves as being artistic. Through traditional mediums like clay and paint, or more alternative types of art such as tie dye or arts and crafts projects, kids can experiment and take creative risks, learning that there is no right or wrong way to convey their feelings or ideas.
  • Social skills – We’re just as focused on interpersonal skills as we are on hands-on learning. Regardless of what kids’ activity is happening in our camps, we hold our kids accountable for the way they treat others and foster an environment of inclusivity, sharing, and friendship. Basic social skills like taking turns, having good manners, or sharing are a central focus of what we teach our kids. We aim to help our children grow up from kindergarten to college with a strong foundation in social skills.

St. Jude’s Academy summer camps are a top choice among both the kids who participate, and their parents who want to see their children learning practical skills that they can carry forward in whatever they do. Our camp’s activities give kids a great foundation of self-esteem, kindness, and confidence that they can put towards any of their future endeavours.
